New Image gallery – SHARJAH

It has been a while, but I am very happy to announce that there is a new image gallery online! Many of you have probably heard of Sharjah Airport before and some might have visited it already. Sharjah is the neighboring emirate of Dubai, UAE and it does have its own airport that was once famous for old Soviet cargo aircraft. Things have changed a bit, but I was gladly able to visit the old aircraft boneyard recently and also included images of some of the more regular visitors to the airport. Here is a preview of what you will get in the SHARJAH Airport – a desert hub gallery: … Continue reading

BOEING Aviation Calendar 2016 about to be delivered!

99 years after the Boeing company was founded, I have come up with a unique BOEING Aviation Calendar 2016 in order to celebrate 100 years of Boeing next year! After designing a MD-11 calendar for the third time in a row, I felt that it was finally time to do something new. Over time I have collected a fair number of Boeing related aviation images and with the help of a few fantastic photographers I have come up with an aircraft calendar that I really love. Giving all my calendars (which includes the Airbus Aviation Calendar 2016 as well) a unified look, there have been some adjustments to previous MD-11 calendars to give them an even … Continue reading

Planespotting at Miami Int. Airport

After flying from Germany to Miami on Air Berlin, I had a couple of days to explore Southern Florida. I had to spend some time had the beach, as the weather was just perfect with blue skies and temperatures around 25°C/77°F. It was the first time I went on a holiday to chill out and relax for a long time and there was no way I would rush things! The beach atmosphere was simply too tempting… Recreation Despite the beach and airports there is much more to explore near Miami. A highlight was my visit to the Everglades National Park. While most people will go on an airboat ride (just … Continue reading

Detroit after the snow

As you know, I have spent a couple of days in Detroit due to the snow storm there. When I woke up yesterday morning, the weather had changed dramatically to the better. See the sunrise from my hotel room was a good feeling, after days of grey and darkness. It was the ideal time for spotting with low temperatures and a crisp cold air, but I had no time for that! Our pick-up from the hotel was 30 minutes late, but we were glad he came at all. Once at Detroit Metro Airport, we made our way to the check-in desk of American Airlines to catch a flight to Dallas/Ft. … Continue reading

Frohe Weihnachten (a bit delayed…)

I hope that all of you had a Merry Christmas or as the Germans say “Frohe Weihnachten”! Did you know that the word christmas actually originates from the Middle English “Christemasse” that is closely related to the German “Christmesse”, which nowadays translates as Christmas Mass into English? Just shows that there are many common roots between the European people… Anyway, I was off from the computer for a while over the holidays and also before christmas to spend some time with my family and friends. Our self-made pasta, tomato sauce and pesto that we gave away as presents made me stay in the kitchen for three whole days (!), but … Continue reading

Lufthansa to Algiers – Part 1

Have you ever been to Algeria? Did you know that it is the 10th largest country in the world? Me neither, but I was about to find out! I have been travelling to Algiers to attend a meeting of the IFALPA (International Federation of Airline Pilot Associations) Air Traffic Services Committee. About fifteen pilots from all over the world are coming together to discuss all kinds of aviation related matters that influence the work of a pilot and I am one of two representatives of our German pilot association Vereinigung Cockpit. But first I had to get to Frankfurt. I took the first flight of the day leaving at 06.15 … Continue reading

Krasnoyarsk – always good for a surprise!

Just yesterday I flew to Krasnoyarsk again and even though it was past 8 pm already the sun was still up and illuminating the apron nicely (unfortunately there were some clouds as well, but no Cumulonimbus clouds). Surprisingly the time zone at Krasnoyarsk’s Yemelyanovo Airport in the middle of Siberia in Russia is just the same as in Beijing on the east coast of China! No wonder that the sun is still shining that late in the day… As we were taxing in, I could already make out some good surprises! I was able to capture some of those, but see for yourself. All these images and some more can … Continue reading

New planespotting gallery online – Tokyo Haneda

I have finally uploaded a couple of photos of a trip to Tokyo Haneda last year! Being able to compare it with the city’s Narita Airport I can say that Haneda is much more spotter friendly and offers better views. It is an all-day airport, where you can get good shots in the morning, afternoon and also at night-time! Here a few impression from Terminal 1, which offers excellent light in the morning hours. It is mainly used by JAL – Japan Airlines and its multitude of Boeing 737s, 767s, 777s and of course Dreamliners (well, not at the moment). Lower viewing level with a snack shop. There could be … Continue reading
